Andromeda is a constellation, but also a famous spiral galaxy, called just "Andromeda Galaxy" (M31). This galaxy is the most distant object visible from Earth with the naked eye and it's very similar to our Milky Way. It's distance from Earth is about 2.5 million light years. In Greek mythology, Andromeda is the daughter of the Aethiopian king Cepheus and his wife Cassiopeia. When Cassiopeia's hubris leads her to boast that Andromeda is more beautiful than the Nereids, Poseidon, influenced by Hades, sends a sea monster, Cetus, to ravage Aethiopia as divine punishment. Andromeda is sacrificed to sate the monster, but she was saved from death by Perseus.
